About
Ryan Leidner, AIA
Ryan Leidner Architecture is a San Francisco-based studio focused on custom residential design. Established in 2010, the practice works on houses across California and on select projects farther afield.
Each project begins with a close reading of place: its light, context, constraints, and atmosphere. Rather than working from a fixed style, the studio gives form to these conditions, shaping each house around the lives that will unfold within it.
The work is guided by clarity of form, careful detailing, and an openness to the everyday life of a house. Materials are chosen for their character, their durability, and the ways they weather and change. From early design through construction, the studio remains closely involved in questions of proportion, craft, and the quiet experience of moving through a space.
Ryan Leidner, AIA, is a licensed architect in California, with a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and an A.B. from Brown University. Before establishing the studio, he was a founding member and Design Director of MASS, where his work included the Butaro Hospital and the Giribuntu School in Rwanda. He has taught at Harvard's Career Discovery Program and served as a visiting critic at the University of Texas at Austin, UC Berkeley, and the California College of the Arts.
